OptiMizer #2

The OptiMizer holds two small square bales of hay up to 16″ high and 42″ long. It can also be loaded with flakes from large square or round bales (up to 150 pounds). It’s approximately 48″ by 48″ by 34″ tall and weighs about 100 pounds. It’s made from the same plastic used to make playground equipment and all the corners are rounded or beveled, creating smooth and safe edges.

Slow feed, knotless nylon netting is mounted on a stainless steel assembly at the top of the feeder. A slide arm at the top locks the netting in place over the hay. The net conforms to the shape of the hay, and horses slowly pull and eat hay through the mesh. As many as four horses can comfortably eat at the same time from an OptiMizer.

It takes less than a minute to fill the OptiMizer. Simply un-clip the slide arm to open the top. Add two bales of hay, cut and remove the twine, slide the net back over the hay, re-clip the slide arm, and that’s it. You’re done—you’ve slow fed two bales of hay in under a minute!

Description

Slow Feed Hay Feeder

OptiMizer

The OptiMizer combines the best of slow feed netting with the convenience of a multi-bale feeder.

While the standard OptiMizer is working really well with thousands of horses across North America, we recognize that one size does not fit all! We now offer some choices to tailor the OptiMizer to the needs of your herd!

The standard OptiMizer is 34” tall and comes with 1.6” netting.

If you would prefer a Mini OptiMizer with full drainage, select the 5” legs. The top of the OptiMizer will be at about 27”, making it ideal for smaller equids and lower head position while eating.  (If you need it to be even shorter, see the MicroMini page.) Please consider that the shorter size could make it easier for some horses to get their front hooves into the OptiMizer, which could increase the risk of entanglement for shod horses.

If you would prefer a different sized OptiNet to meet the anatomical, dietary, and/or behavioral requirements of your herd, please select either the large or small options. All 3 sizes use the proven durable and gentle netting.

Simple

The OptiMizer is delivered fully assembled. Hand holds on the front and back make it easy to move around the paddock by hand.

Smooth, one handed operation of the slide arm quickly opens and closes the feeder.

Safe

All corners are rounded with 1″ diameters, making a smooth and safe surface if rubbed against.

Slow feed netting hangs inside the feeder and conforms over the hay from the top to the bottom of the feeder.

Effective

The tiniest bits are the tastiest. With an OptiMizer, these delicate leaves aren’t lost to the ground but remain within the manger.

Ensure drainage on any terrain with 13 holes distributed around the base of the OptiMizer.

What Our Users Say

So nice, we bought it twice! The Optimizer slow feeder.  With the money that we saved on our first purchase, we purchased a second feeder a year later, we monitored the wasted hay from ground feeding, hay huts and the Optimizer. Hands down the Optimizer saved us money compared to the other two hay feed methods.

If you are looking for a safe and reliable hay feeding solution, that will save you money, the Optimizer is the one for you.

My horse is a 17 year old, off-the-track thoroughbred who lives outside all year. She’s a hard keeper, but by getting her the right amount of hay, whenever she wanted it, it was the first winter she didn’t need an extra blanket.

– Laura T

We use 3 OptiMizers for our herd of 8 horses. We fill them about once a day, even on the worst days, and have found ourselves going through a lot less hay. I’m confident our OptiMizers will pay for themselves in the amount of money we’ve saved in otherwise ruined hay.

I’ve always had slow feed bags. I needed five or six a day to feed three horses. Last winter with the OptiMizer I could slow feed two bales in one place. This saved me a ton of time not hvaing to refill bags everday, plus I noticed it was way cleaner in the spring.
